Cinnamon goes very well with coffee. But the question is, does cinnamon dissolve in the coffee?

The simple answer is No. Cinnamon is a bark from a tree in central Asia. Components of cinnamon are water-resistant, making it impossible to dissolve in water or any drink.

Does cinnamon dissolve in coffee?

Let us dig deeper to know does cinnamon dissolve in coffee?

Cinnamon is indeed a tree’s bark, so it is impossible to dissolve it in any liquid. It can be mixed in liquid in a fine powdered form or creamy substances.

Why doesn’t cinnamon dissolve in the coffee?

Because cinnamon is not a compound like sugar crystals or salt, rather it is a bark from a tree in Asia. It is made of fiber, just like twigs around your garden. The bark of the trees never dissolves in water.

It doesn’t mean that you cannot add flavors of cinnamon to your cup of joe. You have to experiment with different methods of adding cinnamon to your coffee and check which one works best for you.

How to add cinnamon to coffee?

Other methods can be used to add cinnamon for flavor in the coffee.

1. Powdered cinnamon

If you want to add cinnamon to your coffee, use powdered cinnamon. I love sprinkling cinnamon on my cup of coffee. Of course, it will not dissolve, but it is one of the best ways to spice up your cup of coffee.

The non-dissolving nature of coffee should not deter you from adding this flavor to your coffee. There are a few methods you can use to spice up your cup of joe with cinnamon.

 Add powdered cinnamon

The easiest way to add cinnamon to your coffee is by adding it in powdered form. Dusting the finely powdered cinnamon over your coffee will add flavor, and you will not notice the texture of cinnamon bark.

As with anything else, powdered form is less flavorful as compared with sticks or bark itself. Also, powdered form loses its flavor easily because the flavors in spices are due to highly volatile oils. You can try to keep it in a dry and dark area in an airtight container to preserve the flavors. Proper storage conditions help in maintaining the flavor profiles of spices.

Moreover, you can mix cinnamon with cream and add it to your cup. This way, you will taste it along with the cream.

2. Cinnamon sticks

The second method is keeping cinnamon sticks with coffee beans.

Coffee is known to absorb flavors. When cinnamon is kept with coffee beans or coffee grounds, they absorb all the cinnamon flavors, leaving you with cinnamon-infused coffee.

Different types of beans absorb flavors at different rates, so you have to test how much time and how many sticks you will need to infuse cinnamon flavor to the particular coffee beans. After some time, you will have cinnamon-infused coffee beans.

You can even try keeping other spices that you want to have in your coffee, like nutmeg. I have tried this with cardamoms. I am a huge fan of cardamoms( small green).

When I kept cardamoms with coffee grounds, they picked up a subtle flavor of cardamoms and did not overpower the coffee. This is my personal choice, you may not like cardamom but cinnamon is liked by most of us.

3. Adding cinnamon during extraction

You can also add cinnamon powder while brewing the coffee. Not every coffee-making apparatus is good for this one.

If you add the cinnamon powder with coffee beans in espresso, it will not let the coffee grounds contact water properly and may result in clogged espresso. The extraction of coffee will not be to optimum levels.

In simple words, this is not an option for making espresso coffee.

You can mix cinnamon with honey and add it to your cup after brewing. Milk is also an option to dissolve(mix)cinnamon and add to coffee.

Adding cinnamon powder to coffee beans can work for French press and Turkish style coffee. Remember to strain coffee before drinking, or you will get the cinnamon particles in the cup. You will still get a few remains at the bottom of coffee.

How much cinnamon do you put in coffee?

Cinnamon is a spice added to food in normal quantities. Overconsumption can lead to some problems. To avoid this, add ½ a teaspoon to a cup. There are different opinions on this one, but what I have heard from elders in my family is don’t go overboard. Always consume spices in moderation.

Key point: It is just normal wisdom to use all the spices in moderation.

Why should you add cinnamon to coffee?

There are many benefits of adding cinnamon to coffee.

  • Cinnamon contains antioxidants, which enhances the quality of the coffee.
  • It helps in boosting your immune system.
  • It can be used as a sweetener in place of sugars.

Summary

Cinnamon is difficult to dissolve but can be mixed in powdered form in creamers or cream. Also, coffee beans can be infused with the cinnamon flavor by keeping cinnamon sticks with the beans. By now, you may have found the answer to the question, does cinnamon dissolve in the coffee?
